College Tour , April 18-19, 2006 Twenty-three sophomores and juniors boarded a bus bright and early on April 18 for the Alumni Program's third annual overnight college tour. The students spent two days visiting SUNY New Paltz, Bard College, Vassar College, and Mount Saint Mary College, learning about the realities of college life and reconnecting with old friends along the way. The students asked a lot of great questions and got a sense of how they can best prepare themselves to apply for college. In addition to touring schools, the students had a different kind of campus experience when they had dinner at the Culinary Institute of America -- the alumni learned about fine dining, while their servers, hosts, and chefs learned from our alumni! Overall, this year's college tour succeeded in exposing students to a wide variety of schools, in terms of size, cost, public/private, academic programs, and campus life. It provided a context for a variety of discussions, from admission requirements to diversity on campus. As usual, our students demonstrated exemplary behavior, asked excellent questions of admissions officers and tour guides and provided interesting insights into the colleges we visited. |

Freshmen Ice Skating Event, January 16, 2006 This year's Freshman Trip brought 11 ninth graders to Prospect Park for a morning of skating and reuniting with old friends. Despite frigid temperatures, the students enjoyed showing each other how not to fall on the rink. Like the skating trip, annual class trips give students an opportunity to keep in touch with their friends from BwCCS.

| College Panel , January 12, 2006 Several of our college-aged alumni, home for winter break, came to speak with high school juniors and seniors about what life in college is like. The panel included Yarelis Carrion and Lydia Rodriguez from Queens College, Chloe Sanchez from St. John's University, Matthew Bracey from City Tech, and Jessica Bryant from Morgan State University, and shared valuable information about all aspects of college life, from professors to parties. Thanks to all the wonderful speakers!

Evan told the Seniors the blunt truth about how admissions officers will be looking at their writing, and gave lots of helpful advice. Seniors then had the opportunity to send their drafts to Evan for personal editing. A big thank you to Evan for volunteering his time and expertise!

| Intern sailing trip, July 30, 2005 As part of the summer internship program, 16 alumni set sail in the New York Harbor on the historic Pioneer schooner. Teams of alumni raised the sails before setting off for an intriguing tour of the harbor, its history, and its marine life. Through the program, students work four days a week, and on Fridays go on trips that emphasize career/college planning and group bonding.
